AeroSteel™ is an innovative cargo floor design developed through an SBIR Phase II program sponsored by NAVAIR for the CH-53K King Stallion helicopter. The panels are made of steel using an innovative manufacturing process that makes them more durable and lower cost than composite materials while being up to 50% lighter than aluminum panels. Key features include modular design for improved manufacturing, damage tolerance, and repairability. The system enables CH-53K helicopters to internally transport fully-loaded HMMWVs and has potential applications across military and commercial air, ground, and sea freight industries.
